Tottenham want to cash in on their skipper Son Heung-min this summer amid interest from different clubs

Son Heung-min’s future at Tottenham Hotspur has been one of the most intriguing stories of the summer transfer window so far.

Spurs are prepared to accept offers for the South Korean international this summer as he has entered the final year of his contract. Recently turned 33, the forward’s last season was filled with injury problems and inconsistent displays. He looked to lost a yard of pace or two, while fitness wise there were struggles too.

Now, there is a sea of change at White Hart Lane following the appointment of new head coach Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician will use the pre-season to gauge his players for next season. The forthcoming pre-season tour will help resolve the futures of multiple players, including skipper Son Heung-min.

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with Son and has already been in contact with the Spurs star. The Tottenham icon has also recently been linked with a move to MLS club Los Angeles FC. However, he rejected the advances of Los Angeles FC, despite him considering MLS a practical next destination in his career.

Son Heung-min set for crunch talks with Thomas Frank about his Spurs future

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has now given an update on Son’s future at Tottenham. He says the player has “earned the right” to decide his future after representing Spurs for 10 long years, and Frank will want to have a close look at the player in action before making a decision.

“It might be that it’s too early for that conversation to have been had yet,” Alasdair Gold responded to a question on Football London.

“From Frank’s side, you would think he would want to look at Son up close in action before making up his mind on the current level of a player who has done so much for Spurs and the Premier League.

“For me, the decision should be Son’s. If he wants to stay after 10 years at the club and see out his contract, then he’s earned that right, but if he wants to make a move, then that avenue needs to be explored.”

Perfect time for Tottenham and Son to part ways

Tottenham are now heading into a new era under Frank, and Daniel Levy must support the new boss when it comes to taking big decisions. A decision on Son’s future remains a big talking point.

The 33-year-old’s performances were no longer matching the level he has shown in recent years. He has shown glaring signs of slowing down and losing his burst of acceleration, which previously made Son such a dangerous customer in the Tottenham attack. Thus, it would be best for both parties to split this summer.

Having said that, though, the South Asian ace has earned the right to decide his future. Son has been a loyal servant to the Lilywhites and it would not be wrong if he decides to stay in north London.
