Tottenham still tipped to part ways with loanee who dropped a 7/10 against Arsenal, after an otherwise disappointing stint at N17

The loanee has just not gotten going for Tottenham this season.

Tottenham managed to bring in several top-quality players last summer as they aimed to build on their Europa League success under Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites spent heavily on eight new signings to strengthen the squad for the ongoing campaign. The North Londoners recruited players such as Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, and Randal Kolo Muani to reinforce their attack, giving Frank the tools to close the gap on the club’s rivals.

However, it is fair to say that not every signing has delivered as expected this season. The most notable player who has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League has been Randal Kolo Muani. The Frenchman arrived at N17 with high expectations after Spurs beat Juventus to secure his signature. He joined on a season-long loan from PSG and was tipped to replace both Dominic Solanke and Richarlison in the starting eleven.

The 27-year-old, however, has struggled to find his rhythm in the league. While he has impressed in the Champions League, scoring a crucial brace against PSG and finding the net against Frankfurt, he has found it difficult to adapt to the physical and tactical demands of the Premier League. He finally scored his first league goal for Spurs on Sunday in the north London derby, dropping a 7/10 performance and offering a small consolation in a heavy 1-4 defeat at home.

Tottenham remain unconvinced of Randal Kolo Muani’s impact at N17

Tottenham’s decision to appoint Igor Tudor on an interim basis until the end of the season could benefit Randal Kolo Muani. The Croatian coach had been keen to sign the striker for Juventus last summer, only for the Lilywhites to hijack the move on deadline day. Now that Tudor has the opportunity to work with him, there is hope that he can help the 27-year-old rediscover his best form in the coming months.

Ryan Taylor, however, believes Kolo Muani could still return to PSG in the summer, as Spurs reportedly have no option to make the deal permanent. Writing for Football London, Taylor said,

“Tottenham do not have a buy-option for Kolo Muani and while he’s had success in the Champions League this season (three goals and two assists), Sunday’s strike against Arsenal was his first in the Premier League. Given PSG paid a whopping £78million to Eintracht Frankfurt inclusive of add-ons to sign him back in September 2023, they will be keen to recoup as much money as possible when selling the Frenchman this summer.”

The journalist added,

“He’s hardly set the world alight at Spurs and while Tudor is likely to get a tune out of the player he previously worked with at Juventus, there would need to be a fair bit of convincing done between now and the end of the season for Tottenham to consider a permanent deal.”

Taylor points out that Randal Kolo Muani has struggled to make a significant impact in the Premier League, with his first league goal only arriving recently. He also notes that PSG will likely look to cash in on the striker in the summer as they attempt to balance their finances. However, convincing Spurs to pursue a permanent deal could prove difficult, given his inconsistent performances.

Kolo Muani is still expected to play an important role for the Lilywhites during the business-end of the season. Igor Tudor values him due to their previous working relationship and appears determined to get the best out of the striker by giving him greater freedom in attacking areas. Supporters will hope that Kolo Muani can rediscover his scoring form and help the club navigate a difficult period as they fight to secure their top-flight status.
