Guglielmo Vicario has emerged as a key figure for Tottenham since joining in the summer transfer window.

The Italian international made the switch to Spurs last summer, signing a five-year deal from Serie A outfit Empoli for a reported fee of €20 million.

Since his arrival, Vicario has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

According to the latest Opta statistics cited by Sky Sports, Vicario leads the pack in a crucial metric. He ranks first among Premier League goalkeepers in terms of expected goals conceded minus actual goals conceded per 90 minutes, boasting an impressive rating of +0.28. This indicates his tendency to prevent more goals than he lets in.

The statistic are particularly impressive when you take into account Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, which focuses on maintaining a high defensive line. Despite this tactical approach exposing the defence to counterattacks, Vicario has excelled in thwarting scoring opportunities, underscoring his importance to the team.

Since his arrival at Tottenham, the 27-year-old goalkeeper has consistently delivered outstanding performances. Initially met with skepticism from some Spurs fans, who were uncertain about his ability to fill the shoes of the club’s long-time goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, Vicario has swiftly silenced any doubts.

Alongside Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Vicario has formed a formidable defensive unit, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
