Given the underwhelming season that the Lilywhites have endured at Hotspur Way, there is huge pressure for the chiefs at N17 to make changes behind the scenes and ensure that the Lilywhites come out of this slump. One of the key outcomes of this is going to be the major revamp of the current roster, which is expected to happen in the summer transfer window.
And among priorities of that reset is that offensive position, given how Spurs have struggled to score goals in the ongoing campaign. And that is something that Roberto De Zerbi will be desperate to add to his armoury in the off-season.
And a familiar name has re-emerged among targets in one academy graduate who never quite got his moment donning the Spurs badge the first time around. Troy Parrott is not just knocking on the door anymore; he is kicking the whole thing down.
Parrott pushed for a Lilywhites exit in 2024 after struggling to see a pathway to regular game time at Tottenham. Back then everything about him was a promise (especially if you followed academy performances) but still too raw to come in and impact games at Tottenham.
But he has since gone on to become one of the more productive #9s in Europe and looks like someone who you can rely on for goals. He has become sharper with his movement and doesn’t look as rushed with his finishing.
Ideally for him to arrive, someone like Dominic Solanke will have to make way. The Cherries forward has never really felt settled since his move to north London. He was barely able to replicate his Bournemouth antics at Tottenham with only twenty-two goals in the span of two seasons. (h/t Football Insider)
Now, while those numbers are not a complete disaster. It is still not decisive as well. At least not for a team that is crying for some sense of reliability.
And now with Tottenham staring down a possible relegation from the Premier League going into the final five games of the season, there has been news that Spurs would be open to getting into a conversation for a sale for around £50 million.
The thing is if Parrott does come to the roster, he comes as a starter this time and not as a project player, and this suddenly will have Solanke’s role a bit blurry.
Do you think Tottenham should replace Solanke with Parrott?
