Tottenham have earmarked West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta as an alternative target to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Tottenham Hotspur were on the cusp of signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. Having agreed personal terms the player, the only thing left was for Daniel Levy to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace over a fee. But he failed to do so, and arch-rivals Arsenal swopped in and hijacked the deal at the 11th hour.

The north Londoners had identified Eberechi Eze as the player to replace the injured James Maddison in Thomas Frank’s squad. Spurs are now looking to save face in the transfer window and have moved on to other targets following Eze’s decision to join the Gunners.

It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham have earmarked West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta as a possible alternative to Eze. The Brazil international is facing an uncertain future at West Ham and he is keen to move to new surroundings before the transfer window slams shut if the right opportunity arises.

John Wenham feels Mohammed Kudus deal could prompt West Ham to sell Lucas Paqueta to Spurs

Tottenham raided West Ham for Mohammed Kudus earlier in this transfer window. It was the first transfer dealing that took place between the clubs since 2011 when Scott Parker joined Spurs from the Hammers.

Reputable podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham feels Kudus’ deal could pave the way for West Ham to sell Paqueta to Spurs this summer for around £40million.

“My left field suggestion at this point, keeping in mind that Tottenham have already done a deal with West Ham this summer, is we now go and get Paqueta,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“The fact that we’ve gone in and got a player from West Ham already tells me a deal could be done, whether they would sell twice in one summer, I don’t know, but I would now go and get Paqueta, and I think it’s an outstanding player.

“I think he’s probably available for £40-45m. I think there’s better value in that deal than spending £80m, plus what they’re now talking about on Savinho.”

Should Paqueta be viewed as an alternative to Savinho?

Alongside a creative midfielder, the Lilywhites are also on the lookout for a winger. Manchester City’s Savinho has emerged as a primary option to bolster their wide department following Son Heung-min’s departure to Los Angeles FC.

An official from Man City has been blocking Savinho’s potential move to Tottenham since last week. This has not deterred the north Londoners and they are pushing to agree a fee with City for the Brazilian. Both Savinho and Paqueta are versatile attackers and would immediately enhance Frank’s first XI.

Thus, they cannot be viewed as each other’s alternative targets; instead, Daniel Levy must show some ambition and get a deal done for both Samba stars to strengthen Frank’s squad and repair his relationship with the fans after the Eze debacle.
