Former midfielder Jermaine Jenas urges Tottenham to invest in top-quality strikers to evolve under Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur were great value for the points in the 3-0 away win over Everton on Sunday. With the win, they climbed to third in the Premier League table. This demonstrates the work new boss Thomas Frank has done after arriving in N17 in June.

The Danish tactician wants his team to compete on all four fronts this season. That said, the Lilywhites must bring in reinforcements to strengthen the squad for the second half of the campaign. There are still key issues that need to be addressed if they are to close the gap on their rivals and win a trophy.

Chief among those concerns is the No.9 position. The lack of ruthlessness in the box has frustrated supporters, and many are beginning to lose patience with Tottenham’s current centre-forward options at Thomas Frank’s disposal.

Dominic Solanke has barely featured this season due to a persistent ankle issue and is currently out after undergoing minor surgery. Richarlison’s form has faded after a bright start, while summer signing Randal Kolo Muani is still finding his feet. The matter of fact that centre-back Micky van de Ven is the club’s top scorer with five goals speaks volumes about the club’s concerns up front.

Tottenham urged to sign some top strikers

Thomas Frank will be aiming to strengthen his squad when the transfer window reopens in January, after the Lewis family trust via ENIC pumped £100million of fresh capital into the north London club. The lack of firepower up top has hurt Tottenham, who despite not being at full strength due to injuries find themselves third in the PL standings.

Now, ex-Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas has given his verdict on the current make-up of the squad assembled by Frank. He has urged Tottenham to invest significant money in quality strikers in the next transfer windows to take the next step in their evolution under the Danish boss.

“So, for Spurs to take that next step, which I’m hoping it’s going to be um with some investment which potentially could come in in January with the new kind of structure that’s going on,” Jermaine Jenas said on the Wildcards Podcast.

“Um they need to they to start scrapping some of their old mentality and going big now. Like enough’s enough. They need to start going get some top strikers. Um and yeah, put some money behind this team.”

Spurs must spend big for Samu Aghehowa in January

Given their problems scoring goals, Tottenham have started scouring the market for a new striker. Several names have been linked in recent weeks, as Frank eyes new attacking recruits to try and compete for the biggest prizes on the land.

Spurs have shown an interest in FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. They have identified the Spaniard striker as the ideal long-term solution to the attacking problems at N17. Samu Aghehowa has established himself as one of the dangerous young strikers in Europe, beginning the new season in scintillating form with five goals in seven league appearances for FC Porto.

The 21-year-old has a €100 million release clause in his contract at Porto, but if Tottenham are to become an elite team and realistically challenge for the Premier League in the next couple of years, they have to make significant investments to enhance their squad. It goes without saying that €100 million is a lot of money for someone so young and inexperienced at the highest level, so the Hotspur Way chiefs must find a way to bring that price down and get Aghehowa at a reasonable price in January.
