Tottenham vs Manchester United: Match Preview | Premier League 2025/26
Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK

Tottenham are set to host Manchester United later this week in a game that has a lot of significance as both the clubs look to prove that their project is heading in the right direction. With the North Londoners, there had been a lot of question marks of late, while United faced those in the start of the season where Ruben Amorim was under pressure to save his job.

And that is where both the sides will be looking to make a mark.

There will be a lot of pressure on Thomas Frank’s men given how 60,000 Lilywhites supporters watched their side give an underwhelming performance against Chelsea last weekend. That game did end up in a 1-0 defeat, but it was more; there was no sense of attacking sequences and creative intent, which got many fans frustrated.

And now only they have a chance to prove their credentials against another big six side in Manchester United just six months after their meeting in the 2025 Europa League Final.

Man United and Spurs are both on 17 points on the table, with only goal difference being a difference between them. Which means a win for either can see them leapfrog into second place, at least temporarily.

Team News

Tottenham

Tottenham have quite a list of injuries going into yet another game. And the one that will have the Lilywhites supporters on the edge of their seats is that of Mohammed Kudus. The summer marquee arrival is a doubt for the hosts after he missed training with a knock. That being said, there is a chance that he ends up being available for the North Londoners.

Lucas Bergvall is also likely out for this weekend’s game after his concussion substitution in the opening minutes of that defeat against Chelsea.

The usual long-term absentees continue to serve the sidelines, with none of them expected to be back for Thomas Frank & Co. Maddison is delicate for the whole season, while there is a chance that Tottenham could welcome back Dominic Solanke after the international hiatus.

Manchester United

For United, they certainly come into this game with a healthier squad at Amorim’s disposal.

Lisandro Martinez returned for training for the Manchester Reds, and there will be hope that he may put in a cameo display before the international hiatus.

Harry Maguire is a doubt for the visitors, but there is nothing major about his knock.

Pre-match tactics

Thomas Frank will be desperate to see more attacking intent from his side going into the game this weekend. That being said, Dane, the head coach, will need to ensure that he prevents the likes of Mbeumo and Cunha from carrying the ball or closing down space into Bruno.

We have seen United being quite good at finding one another on balls lately. Amorim has finally got this team playing on his terms. But there have been defensive frailties still visible, and Frank will be looking to take advantage of those. Having Simons attracting players before release could be a key in those second/third-phase zones.

Predicted Line‑ups

Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Romero, Spence; Palhinha, Bentancur; Kudus, Simons, Johnson; Muani

Manchester United: Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Fernandes, Casemiro, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko

Prediction

Manchester United have not got the better of the Lilywhites since 2022; however, Tottenham’s home form will be a concern, complemented by the momentum that they have been carrying of late.

But given Tottenham’s defensive structure, the visitors won’t find a lot of space to attack into. We think the Lilywhites should come out with a narrow win.

Prediction: Tottenham 2‑1 Manchester United
