Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to bring in Barcelona’s highly rated midfielder Marc Casado in the ongoing summer transfer window as Daniel Levy looks to further bolster the roster at Thomas Frank’s disposal as the Lilywhites prepare for the new Premier League campaign.
And according to the latest in the Spanish publication SPORT, the Premier League heavyweights are said to have made initial enquiries to land the 21-year-old Spain international this summer window. But that being said, Spurs are not alone in their pursuit of Casado, with a few European clubs, including Chelsea and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, also monitoring his situation at Camp Nou.
But while Daniel Levy & Co. have been liking what they see in Casado, any negotiations to bring him to Hotspur Way can end up being a challenging task given that he is said to have no current intention of leaving Barcelona. However, SPORT further goes on to touch on these things and suggests that his situation might evolve depending on his role in manager Hansi Flick’s plans after the first two games in La Liga.
Barcelona are said to have set their valuation of Casado at around €30 million (£26 million) at the moment, showing how massive his potential is and also reiterating the fact that he has a big contract at Camp Nou as of now, which runs until June 2028.
Casado had a strong breakthrough season at Barcelona under Flick last year, where he ended the campaign with somewhere around 36 appearances across all competitions whilst contributing to seven goals and assists before an injury went on to put a halt to his progression in March. And his antics also earned him a couple of senior caps for Spain, showing his growing reputation.
With Joao Palhinha already arriving on loan from Bayern Munich, the fact that Daniel Levy is looking at more players shows the need to bring in a sense of depth in the middle of the park at N17.
And with the imminent departure of club captain Son Heung-min to LAFC intensifying at the moment, Tottenham will also need to be looking to fork out money to land a new forward who has that capacity to play across multiple positions. And that is where, in addition to Casado, Tottenham are also looking to bring in Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes, showing how Daniel Levy is serious about reshaping the squad significantly under Thomas Frank.
And for Casado, he has those qualities and age which make him an ideal candidate to fit into the current setup at Tottenham, but Daniel Levy will have a mountain to climb, as by the looks of it, he will have to persuade the player as well as Barcelona to agree on a summer switch.
