Tottenham’s’ pursuit of Premier League midfielder gets a boost as major competition exits the race

Juventus have pulled out of the race for Tottenham transfer target Kalvin Phillips.

That is according to The Sun’s report, which claims that the Italian giants are no longer in contention to sign the Manchester City man due to financial constraints.

This comes as a big boost for the Premier League clubs interested in signing him, including Tottenham.

Spurs are expected to dive into the market for a midfielder this transfer window after the recent injury setbacks and the upcoming AFCON.

James Maddison is yet to return from the ankle injury he sustained during the Chelsea game in November, while Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have gone away to the AFCON with their respective national teams.

This has left Spurs short of midfield options, forcing them to sign another midfielder this month.  One of the midfielders they have been linked with is Manchester City flop Kalvin Phillips.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham are in a ‘massive’ race to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

But they are not the only ones interested in the 28-year-old. Within the Premier League, they reportedly face competition from Newcastle.

The report from The Sun also mentions interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham, both clubs said to be keen on signing him.

TBH Says:

Phillips could certainly be a decent addition to the squad given his experience in the league as well as familiarity playing in a system similar to Ange’s during his time at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa and at City with Pep Guardiola.
