Sebastian Tounekti was absent from Tunisia’s squad as they cruised to a 6-0 victory over São Tomé and Príncipe in their World Cup qualifier yesterday, prompting concerns from Celtic supporters…
Reports suggest that the winger’s omission was merely precautionary, due to a minor issue. According to an article in Middle Eastern publication Al Araby, Tounekti is currently dealing with a thigh problem.
The report indicates that medical assessments carried out on Monday morning showed no serious issue, though he was advised to take a few days off to recover fully. The 23-year-old Celtic star is expected to be available for selection when Tunisia face Namibia on Monday.
Since arriving from Hammarby on transfer deadline day this summer, Tounekti has quickly made a strong impression at Celtic. His displays have regularly stood out, and his only goal for the club to date came in the Premier Sports League Cup clash against Partick Thistle three weeks ago.
Speaking to The Celtic Star following the Hoops’ 2-0 defeat to Braga last Thursday, Tounekti was confident of he and his teammates qualifying for the latter stages of the Europa League.
“No, I think we still have a big chance to do that,” he said. “It’s a competition where many teams are going through. Even if you don’t make it through to the top eight, then you still get into the playoffs. So, we have so many points and important matches to play for. So, we have to just keep going.”
Celtic return to action next weekend with a trip to Dundee at Dens Park in the Scottish Premiership.
A must-win game against Sturm Graz follows Dundee and then it’s a top of the table clash with Hearts at Tynecastle at the end of the month.
It’s gearing up to be a really important month across all fronts for Celtic with new energy hopefully ignited post-International break.
