Tottenham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of highly-rated FC Copenhagen talent Victor Froholdt

After weeks of heavy speculation, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed last week the appointment of Thomas Frank as the new head coach on a three-year deal.

The Dane has his work cut out at Hotspur Way this summer as he looks to undertake a rebuild and get Spurs back up the Premier League table. Guaranteeing Champions League football for next season will allow the Lilywhites to bring in quality players to bolster the squad. They can lure some highly-rated talents from across the continent to N17 by offering them a chance to play in the elite competition against top teams.

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in midfield reinforcements for next season. The North Londoners struggled to control games under former boss Ange Postecoglou, and signing a quality central midfielder will solve a lot of their issues. It has been reported in recent weeks that Spurs have entered the race for highly-rated FC Copenhagen midfielder Victor Froholdt.

Since last year following his promotion to the FC Copenhagen’s first team, several clubs including Tottenham have scouted Victor Froholdt. The Danish talent enjoyed his breakout campaign in 2024/25, netting six goals and supplying five assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. He was a part of the FC Copenhagen side that beat Silkeborg IF 3-0 in the Danish Cup final in May.

As it had become apparent that the Danish giants are ready to sell Froholdt this summer, one club has made significant pursuit of the youngster. According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Eintracht Frankfurt have agreed terms with Froholdt on a five-year deal. Negotiations between both the clubs have started.

Froholdt’s decision to join Eintracht Frankfurt should come as big blow for Tottenham as they look to kickstart a new era under Frank. Yves Bissouma has entered the final year of his contract at Spurs. Due to his underwhelming displays over the last two seasons, the club has decided to cash in Bissouma this summer. The Malian’s potential exit would leave a gap to fill in the squad, and Froholdt could have been a smart option.

The two-cap Denmark international has the technical ability to thrive in Frank’s system. He had been a strong addition to Tottenham’s midfield unit, providing competition for the likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr. Frank would have certainly enjoyed nurturing a talent from his own country, like he did at Brentford with Mikkel Damsgaard.

But with the Copenhagen starlet having decided to move to Bundesliga and join Eintracht Frankfurt, the Hotspur chiefs must shift their focus elsewhere to bolster the midfield unit ahead of the 2025/26 season.
