Player sales are finally opening up at Manchester United after months of quiet activity.
To bring in the players Ineos want, the club need to sell. While recent PSR figures have eased some of United’s concerns, the summer budget still won’t cover all the club’s transfer plans without extra funds being raised through exits.
Right now, the club are believed to have around £73m available in cash, with more expected to come in thanks to player sales over the coming weeks.
Juventus kicking off with a £21m offer for Jadon Sancho would finally bring an end to one of Ineos’ biggest headaches over the past year.
Moreover, Real Betis are preparing a structured deal for Antony, with payments spread over several months, and the Red Devils also expect to profit from sell-on clauses – but that won’t be the case with Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United could receive a £20m windfall from Alvaro Fernandez, with Real Madrid closing in on a deal, with most of the value coming from add-ons.
Mason Greenwood also had the potential to generate funds for United after his standout season with Marseille. However, HITC have spoken with journalist Graeme Bailey regarding Greenwood’s situation and the news isn’t good for the Red Devils.
“On Greenwood, I did check with his people, and I am told that a summer transfer is now highly unlikely. This is mainly due to Marseille getting into the Champions League.
“An additional reason is that Greenwood’s main options are busy this summer on other things, like Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Greenwood also likes playing under De Zerbi, and he’s still there, so it works for all.
“United will see cash from Greenwood, just not this season. Next summer, he plans to represent Jamaica in the World Cup, which is a chance to grow his value.”
Despite that, Barcelona have since emerged as a legitimate contender. And according to Football Insider, Arsenal had also been keen on his signature.
By waiting another 12 months, United could actually end up benefiting and earning far more than £11.7m from Greenwood in the future.
Greenwood was Ligue 1’s top scorer, with 21 goals and six assists in 34 games. After such a strong first campaign, hopes will be high that he can have an even better second season.
If the English winger continues to shine, especially with more European games under his belt this time around, the demand for him could be even stronger.
