Celtic have been alerted to a potential opportunity in the transfer market as uncertainty surrounds the future of left-back Anass Salah-Eddine

The Moroccan defender is currently away on international duty at AFCON and is spending the season on loan at PSV from Roma, where his performances in the Eredivisie have attracted widespread attention from clubs across Europe.

PSV are understood to be exploring a permanent deal and hold an option to buy, but the move has yet to be finalised, with the player’s approval still required before anything is completed.

According to a report from Africa Foot, the lack of progress has put several clubs on standby should negotiations stall. Celtic are among those monitoring the situation, alongside Nottingham Forest, Porto, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

The Scottish champions have previously been credited with an interest in Salah-Eddine, and could yet revive their pursuit if a deal with PSV fails to materialise.

After signing for PSV in the summer, Salah-Eddine said: “When PSV emerged as a serious option for me, I was immediately enthusiastic. After the first talks with the people within the club, I immediately felt a connection.”

“After that, the choice was quickly made for me. I am convinced that I will be an asset to PSV. I will give my all for this club, fight in every match and wear the logo with pride.”

With uncertainty surrounding Daizen Maeda’s future and the lack of depth at LWB for Wilfried Nancy, it could be a position Celtic aim to recruit in January.

However, reports so far have mostly linked the Hoops with players in the forward area of the pitch – and a striker or two, appears to be top of Celtic’s January wish list.

The team would also look far better balanced with a right-sided centre-back who can play in the back three rather than Anthony Ralston.
