Tottenham are hoping to bolster their midfield in the summer for next season.

Tottenham are aiming to preserve their top-flight status this season after parting ways with Thomas Frank earlier last week. The Lilywhites are winless in their last eight league matches, leaving them stranded in the bottom half of the table. They have managed to win just two of their last 17 league fixtures and are now staring at the possibility of being drawn into a relegation battle. As a result, the North Londoners have appointed Igor Tudor on an interim basis until the end of the campaign.

It is evident that Spurs are in desperate need of game-changers within their squad. The ongoing injury crisis has only worsened the situation, with several key players sidelined for extended periods. Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison have not featured at all for the North Londoners this season, while Dominic Solanke has only recently returned from a long-term ankle injury that kept him out for the first half of the campaign.

Therefore, it is crucial for the club to strengthen in the summer if they are to compete again at the top end of the Premier League table. Spurs must recruit a new midfielder capable of influencing the game at both ends of the pitch. There is an urgent need to address the glaring issues in the middle of the park, and signing a dynamic box-to-box midfielder could significantly improve the Lilywhites’ hopes of securing European qualification next season.

Napoli star Scott McTominay has decided to snub Tottenham amid transfer links

It comes as little surprise that Tottenham are targeting a new #8 ahead of next season. Recent reports linked the Lilywhites with Napoli star Scott McTominay. The 14 G/A talismanic Serie A midfielder has enjoyed an impressive spell in Naples, earning cult-hero status among the supporters. However, the report suggested he could be open to a new challenge in the summer, with a preference for returning to the Premier League.

Scott McTominay has since played down the speculation, insisting he has no intention of leaving Napoli at this stage. Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, McTominay said,

“My agent has not communicated with anyone regarding my future. He only speaks with me and with the club. He hasn’t said anything to the newspapers. I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player. It is all I think about. The future is very important and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time.”

Scott McTominay has made it clear that no club has approached him regarding a potential transfer and that he has no plans to leave Napoli anytime soon. The Scotland international is content to remain in Italy and honour his contract with the Serie A giants. He even admitted that he could see himself representing Napoli for many years, effectively ending speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham.

Signing McTominay always appeared to be an ambitious pursuit for the Lilywhites. A move to N17 seemed unlikely, even if he were to return to the Premier League in the summer. With that particular transfer story now reaching a dead end, Spurs must turn their attention to alternative targets as they look to strengthen the squad ahead of next season. Midfield reinforcements remain essential, and the club must work hard to persuade other options to make the move to North London.
