Turkey takes down U.S. as Paraguay, Australia draw

Group D’s final group stage matches saw the U.S. face off against Turkey and Australia take on Paraguay for second place.

With their win over Australia on Friday followed by Paraguay’s win over Turkey, the U.S. knew coming into their final group stage match that no matter the outcome, they would remain a top of the group.

Both sides would go back and forth, with the U.S. taking an early lead thanks to an Auston Trusty goal in the 3rd minute.

But Turkey would bounce right back with two unanswered goals in the 10th and 31st minutes to take the lead.

However, the U.S. would draw even in the 49th, but Turkey would get the last laugh.

Finding a goal in the 90+8th minute, Turkey took home a 3-2 win over the U.S. in their final match of the 2026 World Cup.

Australia nor Paraguay could find the back of the net in their 0-0 draw.

With that result, Australia would claim the second-place spot and their ticket to round of 32.

As for Paraguay, they sit inside the top eight, but their ticket has not been punched yet.

Although, it is more than likely that following the remainder of the group stage matches, they will find themselves in the round of 32.
