Mathys Tel is keen to head for pastures new after falling down the pecking order at Tottenham

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel has endured a difficult period since making his move to N17 permanent in the summer. The Frenchman has struggled for regular minutes this season, with Thomas Frank often preferring other options in his position within the starting eleven. He has largely been restricted to substitute appearances, prompting many supporters to question why the talented attacker has not been given more opportunities from the outset.

The North Londoners opted to sign Tel on a permanent basis after his six-month loan spell at N17 concluded at the end of last season. His performances during the second half of the campaign did little to justify a £40m outlay at the start of the summer window. However, Thomas Frank insisted at the time that Tel would be an important addition in the final third and play a key role for the club this season.

That promise has yet to materialise, with the Frenchman seemingly slipping down the pecking order under Frank. He has started just three of Tottenham’s 19 Premier League matches so far this season. To his credit, the 20-year-old has made a positive impact in limited minutes, scoring crucial goals against Manchester United and Leeds United. Even so, those contributions have not been enough to earn him a regular starting role.

Tottenham fans continue to question the decision to make Mathys Tel’s move permanent if Thomas Frank had no real plans to integrate him into the starting lineup at N17. The young forward has quickly lost his place in the side and is finding it increasingly difficult to feature consistently under Frank’s management. As things stand, a move away from England could benefit him in the coming weeks.

Recent reports have suggested that Tel is frustrated by his lack of game time and is open to a move elsewhere during the winter window. The 20-year-old has been strongly linked with a switch to AS Roma, who view him as an alternative to Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee as they seek to strengthen their attack for the remainder of the season.

However, there has been a fresh development in the transfer saga surrounding Tel. According to Yeni Akit (via Sport Witness), Galatasaray are also keeping a close eye on his situation at N17 and are considering a loan move for the second half of the campaign. Manager Okan Buruk reportedly values the Frenchman’s versatility, and the Turkish side are prepared to submit an offer if reasonable conditions can be agreed.

Time to loan Tel out?

The time has come for Spurs to make a clear decision on Mathys Tel’s short-term future as he waits for his opportunity. Allowing him to leave on loan would be a sensible option to ensure his development is not stalled. A temporary departure would also help protect his market value ahead of next summer, should the Lilywhites decide to cash in at the end of the season.

Tottenham are already looking to invest heavily in new attacking options during the winter window, which suggests Thomas Frank does not plan to reintegrate Mathys Tel into the starting eleven anytime soon. As a result, it may only be a matter of time before the 20-year-old departs N17 in search of regular football and a fresh start to revive his career.
