Mohammed Kudus made his much-awaited debut in a Tottenham shirt against Reading in a pre-season friendly fixture on Saturday

Tottenham Hotspur started their pre-season off with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday, giving new boss Thomas Frank an ideal start.

After a lukewarm, goalless first-half, Will Lankshear opened the scoring in the 49th minute with a close-range header. Four minutes later, Luka Vuskovic doubled the Lilywhites’ lead with a composed shot past Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira. And summer’s blockbuster signing Mohammed Kudus was heavily involved in both goals.

It took Mohammed Kudus only four minutes to make an impact after coming off the bench at half time. The 24-year-old sent in a wonderful cross off a corner that was flicked on by Vuskovic before Lankshear headed past a rooted Pereira. From there, he continued to cause all kinds of problems for the Reading defenders with his burst of pace, dribbling, elusive movement. And it took him just a few more minutes to grab his first assist in a Spurs shirt.

Controlling the ball on the left, Kudus played a fine pass across the field for the onrushing Vuskovic to hammer home a low left-footed drive into the far corner beyond Pereira.

Thomas Frank impressed by Mohammed Kudus’ showing

Much has been spoken about the Ghana international’s arrival at Tottenham. He was a key player at West Ham United for two seasons, and Spurs have done extremely well to raid their London rivals and sign him for around £55 million. It was not an easy deal to do as Spurs had multiple bids rejected by West Ham, before they finally managed to land the versatile attacker.

And Kudus showed his quality in a Tottenham shirt for the first time on Saturday, bagging an assist in the 2-0 win over Reading. When asked to describe the positives from the game and the Ghanaian attacker’s performance, gaffer Thomas Frank told the club’s media:

“I thought there were a lot of positives in there,” Frank said.

“If we start with Kudus, of course, he’s the newest one. He was exciting to watch. He had four, five very good actions where you could see what he’s about. His pace, one-on-one skills, the way he can twist and turn going forward.”

Fans will be excited to see more of Kudus

Kudus lived up to the buzz and excitement with a strong 45 minutes in Tottenham’s first pre-season fixture. Of course, there is a lot more to come from the ex-Ajax star, and the outing against Reading would have helped him gain much-needed minutes in his tank and establish relationship with his new teammates on the pitch.

Our fans certainly will be thrilled to watch the African attacker more in action. Thomas Frank’s side take on Luton Town next weekend, and the Tottenham faithful will be hoping to see Kudus in action from the onset.
