Sky Sport Italia insists that Roberto De Zerbi is not among Milan‘s targets and that Paulo Fonseca is the leading candidate to replace Stefano Pioli.

De Zerbi appears to be one of the Milan fans’ favourite candidates to take over at San Siro next season and a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning had seemed to boost their hopes.

However, Sky Sport Italia correspondent from Milan Manuele Baiocchini said on Monday afternoon that the ex-Brighton boss is not among the candidates to replace Pioli in 2024-25.

The journalist said he’s been talking to sources again, but there is no confirmation that the Diavoli will try to get the Italian tactician.

According to the report, ex-Roma coach Fonseca is the leading candidate for the job.

Milannews reports the same adding that two imminent meetings will clarify who the next Milan coach will be.

Two crucial meetings for Milan’s new coach

Primarily, Pioli will meet Milan directors this week to discuss his contract termination, while the most likely candidate to replace him, Fonseca, will sit down with the Lille President today or tomorrow, as the Portuguese revealed during a press conference on Sunday.

“I think the next [this] week will be decisive for my future, whether here or elsewhere, I want to move forward in my career,” said the ex-Roma coach whose contract with Lille runs out next month.
