Two players to debut in Everton vs Manchester United

Everton and Manchester United are due to face off on Sunday afternoon in both sides’ first fixture since the summer transfer window slammed shut.

The Red Devils and The Toffees have made their time count during the summer window, with signings for positions across the field made for both clubs.

United acted quickly to replace the departing Casemiro, and to fill the void left due to Manuel Ugarte’s freak World Cup injury, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans signing.

Long-term midfield target Carlos Baleba followed soon after although is yet to make his debut for the club due to an injury.

Karl Darlow was also signed as a major part of Manchester United’s reshaped goalkeeping unit.

Everton, on the other hand, made eight signings in the summer transfer window with Merlin Rohl the first of those.

Manchester United target Hayden Hackney would follow with Christian Norgaard and Brennan Johnson both securing their place at The Toffees soon after.

The final days of the transfer window, where Everton signed Ainsley Maitland-Niles and re-signed Jack Grealish, were intriguing, though.

David Moyes’ side, now left without a forward following the departure of Beto, have been left strengthened in some areas whilst being weakened in others.

With a squad that is lacking in areas, The Toffees have been scrambling to add to their ranks although appear unlikely to do so before Sunday.

Jack Grealish

Grealish, returning to Merseyside after a loan spell with the club last season, could make his second debut for the club in the game against United on Sunday.

The 30-year-old started for Everton at Old Trafford last season as Moyes led the club to victory, even with ten men, although was not present for the reverse Premier League fixture where Benjamin Sesko netted the winner.

In his career playing in the Premier League against Manchester United, Jack Grealish has scored two goals and provided one assists. None of those goal contributions have come in his time at Everton, but instead at Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Maitland-Niles, on the other hand, has faced Manchester United eight times in his career, providing one assist, across several competitions including the Premier League and Europa League.

Everton’s need for a right-back was a big talking point throughout the summer window, although the club left it late to secure what was needed for the rest of the season.

The Toffees choice, in Ainsley Maitland-Niles, appears to be a smart one, given his previous Premier League experience and wealth of knowledge, the knowledge Everton supporters may see from the right-back for the first time this weekend.

Whilst Manchester United do not appear to be debuting anyone new this weekend, given Baleba’s ongoing injury and the lack of business from the club, their opponents could deploy their latest talents against them in this match.

Michael Carrick’s men will have to be prepared for that if they are to secure their second win of the season and move further up the Premier League table.
