Italy international Destiny Udogie described his compatriot and Tottenham teammate Guglielmo Vicario as ‘a phenomenon’ as Spurs celebrated a massive Europa League victory.
Tottenham beat domestic rivals Manchester United 1-0 on Wednesday, lifting their first European trophy in 41 years.
Vicario played a key role in Spurs’ achievement with some crucial saves in the Final played in Bilbao.
“It’s a magical night, and it’s historic for this club,” the Italian keeper told Sky Sport Italia after the award ceremony.
“Perhaps, many thought we’d experience another failure when I joined this club, but we’ve made history in this club and this competition.
“We suffered a lot. It was a tough game and an arduous journey, but this is the joy football gives when you win. There are so many fans, it’s incredible.”
Vicario was about to continue the interview when his compatriot Udogie stepped in, so the reporters asked the defender whether he had thanked Vicario for his save in the dying minutes.
“He’s a phenomenon, I won’t say anything else. A phenomenon,” Udogie replied.
Tottenham’s Europa League win also means Spurs will be playing in the Champions League next season, while Manchester United won’t play in any European competition.
Tottenham will face the Champions League winner, Inter or PSG, in the UEFA Super Cup Final, which will be played in Udine on August 14.
Both Udogie and Vicario are ex-Udinese players and come from Veneto, but the goalkeeper was even born and raised in Udine.
