It was learned back on Feb. 24 that the Ukrainian Premier League had suspended play indefinitely after Ukraine declared martial law following Russia's invasion.
That season understandably never restarted and is now over.
Per The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and BBC Sport, the 2021-22 Ukrainian Premier League season has been terminated with Shakhtar Donetsk sitting atop the table on 47 points, two points ahead of Dynamo Kyiv.
"The football clubs of the Ukrainian Premier League supported the proposal to terminate the 2021-22 season... since the championship cannot be completed due to the extension of martial law status in Ukraine," the league said in a statement shared by Amitai Winehouse of The Athletic. "The standings as of February 24, 2022, will be the final standings of the 2021-22 season, with no winners to be awarded. The corresponding decision was submitted for approval by the executive committee of the Ukrainian Association of Football."
It's unclear if Ukrainian clubs will be able to participate in European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League later this year. Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv are currently playing in charity matches around Europe to raise funds for individuals impacted by the invasion.
The Ukraine men's national team remain scheduled to face Scotland in a World Cup qualifying playoff match on June 1, with the victor set to play against Wales on June 5 for a place in the World Cup.
