With the Premier League season coming to its business end, clubs are already looking past their next match and thinking about the decisions that’ll shape their squads for next season.
For teams chasing European spots, it’s a tough situation; grab results now, but don’t lose sight of the bigger picture.
This is when loan players can suddenly hit their stride, just as managers need them most.
Every detail counts. Attitude, consistency, and performance all get put under the spotlight.
At Aston Villa, there’s a quiet sense of satisfaction these days about Jadon Sancho, who came in with a lot to prove.
Sancho had a slow start at Villa after arriving at the start of the season, but lately, he’s stepped up.
Sharper performances, more impact, and finally some numbers to back it up.
Inside the club, people have noticed, especially since Villa’s system under Unai Emery isn’t exactly easy to adapt to.
Sancho’s first few weeks were rough, but recently he’s started to look more confident, and he’s finally delivering in the final third.
Just this past Saturday, he grabbed his first Premier League goal involvement for Villa, setting up Morgan Rogers to open the scoring against Bournemouth.
Before that, he’d found the net against Fenerbahce, his first goal in claret and blue.
Unai Emery hasn’t shied away from talking about Sancho’s journey since arriving in the Midlands.
And now, Birmingham Live has reported that Unai Emery is interested in keeping Sancho beyond this season.
“The first part of the season was not enough, he was working and trying, but not achieving the performance we needed,” Emery admitted.
“Now he is getting better. He is getting the challenge for him and us.
“I spoke with him a few times about the challenge we have with him and that he has with us.”
Sancho’s situation is especially interesting because his Manchester United contract runs out this summer, so he’s on track to become a free agent.
When asked if Villa might try to keep him longer, Emery didn’t rule it out.
“Not yet. But he is a fantastic player,” he said.
“Hopefully he can help us by increasing his qualities in our structure like he is doing. He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here.
“If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him.”
