United star reveals which teammate treats training ‘like a Champions League final’

Amad Diallo was recently quizzed on which Manchester United teammate is the most ‘difficult’ to come up against in training, and the answer will come as no surprise to supporters.

The attacker responded in his chat with club media: “Right now? Licha. Lisandro Martinez, yeah. He’s very strong in the training. For him, the training is like the Champions League final. He never trains easy, he goes stronger, so it’s harder to train against him.”

Martinez is notorious for his aggression on the pitch so clearly, the same traits carry over to Carrington also.

It’s a factor of his personality and playing style that has made him one of the most popular players among the Old Trafford faithful but also the most disliked by rival fans, which is always a positive sign.

Currently overseeing his second spell on the sidelines, Martinez will be eager to return to action as soon as possible, with the Reds looking to put in a resurgent, spirited shift across the remainder of the campaign. The only prospect of silverware is now the FA Cup, where United host rivals Liverpool in the quarter-finals on March 17.

The centre-half made the trip to the Etihad for last weekend’s Manchester derby, along with fellow absentee Rasmus Hojlund, but was omitted from the teamsheet. It may, however, hint that both players are nearing the end of their respective layoffs.
