United Youngster ‘Compared to Lionel Messi’ Could Be Tempted with Old Trafford Departure

Playing for Manchester United is an exciting prospect for many young footballers. However, a shock departure from the Champions League and a string of poor results in the Premier League is making it difficult for Erik ten Hag to promise future stars a chance to shine on the European stage. One such teenage player could be on the move to another English club.

Dan Gore Is on the Radar of League One Outfit Port Vale

Loan Deal Would Get Gore More Playing Time

Mike McGrath, in an article for The Telegraph, reported that “Manchester United teenager Dan Gore is on Port Vale’s radar.” The 19-year-old joined the Red Devils’ academy in 2018 from Burnley. After spending the 2022/23 campaign and the beginning of this season with the reserves squad, even winning their Player of the Year award in 2023, he was called up to the senior squad late last year.

McGrath noted that Port Vale’s pursuit of Gore is focused on the youngster’s playing time, stating that the League One club “could look to offer him regular senior football.” United’s remainder of the 2023/24 term will be centred on climbing back to the European spots of the English top flight. The young midfielder is not likely to find much time on the pitch during that stretch.

Teenager’s Rise and Praise for His Skills

Gore’s potential loan to Port Vale would only be a temporary step in his journey towards becoming a regular for United. He made his senior team debut against Crystal Palace in a September EFL Cup fixture. Three months later, while facing Aston Villa, the 19-year-old took the pitch in his first-ever Premier League match.

Teammates on United’s U21 squad have heaped praise on the youngster. After a particularly strong performance against Blackburn Rovers’ U21 side, he “was compared to Lionel Messi.” The teenager is a long way from matching the Argentines’ many records. Ten Hag does, though, have a promising midfielder whose name could one day be chanted around Old Trafford.
