‘Unlikely’ – insider hands Chelsea fresh Nicolas Jackson transfer blow

Chelsea have been trying to shop striker Nicolas Jackson on the summer transfer market. His red card in the Club World Cup group stages in a 3-1 loss to Flamengo isn’t the reason why the Blues are open to selling Jackson, but it may have been the case of a “last straw” situation for Chelsea.

The Blues are still looking to sign another striker to replace Jackson and pair with Liam Delap, a young striker who was one of the most promising in the Premier League last season despite playing for Ipswich Town, one of the worst teams in the league.

Whereas Delap stood out, Jackson hurth is own stock, and Chelsea have no regrets about trying to sell him. Jackson wasn’t bad in the 2024/25 season, but while he is well-rounded, his inconsistencies and poor finishing – as well as a woeful disciplinary record for any player but especially for a striker – have doomed him.

Chelsea know they need to sell Jackson in order to have the space to bring in another striker who is better, but they are finding it difficult to find suitors for Jackson at the kind of price point they are looking for.

Chelsea can’t count on a big-name suitor

In the latest transfer blow, Give Me Sport reporter Ben Jacobs reports that striker-needy Manchester United are apparently not needy enough to submit a transfer bid for Nicolas Jackson, as Man United are reportedly “unlikely” to make an offer to Chelsea.

Per Jacobs, “a lot” would need to happen in order for Man United’s Jackson stance to change, and while they do like him as a player, they have “downplayed” actually going for him.

The reality is that Chelsea want somewhere around 100 million pounds for Jackson, and while they will certainly come down from that understandably bloated initial asking price, the Blues aren’t going to find much of a market for Jackson, to the point where they may not even think it is worth selling.

Chelsea have focused on midfielder Xavi Simons more than any other transfer target right now, so there’s also a sense that they may not be so desperate to swap out Jackson for another striker – at least, not desperate enough to avoid trying to make maximum profit on him.

As the nearly 50 million pound fee Chelsea recouped from Arsenal for the Noni Madueke transfer showed, Chelsea have a knack for selling even their transfer flops at a profit, so if Manchester United aren’t going to bite despite their need for a striker, Chelsea may feel confident that someone else will.
