Highlights

  • Barcelona's Marcus Rashford sustained an injury in the closing moments of Sunday's match.
  • Rashford received treatment after the full time whistle.
  • New report suggests Rashford's injury is not considered serious.

It's safe to say that everyone associated with Barcelona is going into the international break in a bad mood. They were stunned by Sevilla on Sunday, falling to a 4-1 defeat despite being the heavy favorites.

After an awful first half, things could have gone either way in the second half. Robert Lewandowski missed a penalty at 2-1 with around 15 minutes remaining, and even at 3-1, they missed a presentable opportunity to get one back with eight minutes of stoppage time remaining.

Then, to rub salt in the wounds, Marcus Rashford, who scored Barcelona's only goal of the game, went down in pain after the game had finished and received treatment for an injury.

This had left fans very concerned. The Englishman has been one of their best performances in recent weeks, and fellow wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are already injured as it is.

Report: Rashford's Injury Not Considered a Long-Term Concern

However, an early update on Rashford's condition has emerged. According to SPORT journalist Carlos Monfort, the 27-year-old doesn't appear to be dealing with a long-term injury.

"Barça sources assure that Marcus Rashford's issue is just a knock. Although he ended the match lying on the field, it doesn't seem to be anything serious," Monfort wrote on X.

Safe to say this is a huge relief for everyone associated with the club. There has been enough bad news with the injuries and defeats to PSG and Sevilla this week without having to go through another injury.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Rashford joins up with England for the forthcoming international break. Thomas Tuchel's side are set to play Wales in a friendly, and Latvia in World Cup qualifying, where they could officially confirm their ticket to North America next summer.

We can clearly see Tuchel rates Rashford, having picked him for all three squads he has been fit for at the time of selection. However, he may think that in a friendly and minnow-like Latvia, he will have enough without risking the fitness of a key player.

Hansi Flick will certainly be hoping so anyway. Having two weeks of rest will be the optimal scenario for him and his coaching staff. After the break, Barcelona face Girona, Olympiacos and Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the first El Clasico of the season, all in the space of eight days.

The aforementioned Yamal and Raphinha are not going on international duty with Spain and Brazil, albeit they were certified injuries, rather than the knock that Rashford seems to have picked up.

Having all three at Flick's disposal will be key for the Clasico at the end of the month. With a poor performance from Lewandowski earlier on today, and Father Time perhaps catching up, many fans would like to see Rashford through the middle, and Yamal and Raphinha on each wing.

Let's see what happens over the next few days, but the bottom line is this news definitely could have been a lot worse than it was.
