Update on Lionel Messi's Availability vs. Chicago Fire
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Inter Miami will be without Lionel Messi at Soldier Field for the second consecutive year.

The club listed Messi as “OUT” with an ankle injury on the team’s availability report ahead of their matchup against the Chicago Fire. Inter Miami’s superstar finally returned to training this week after sustaining an injury during the Copa América Final with Argentina on July 14 but will not be able to play in the club’s second match following the Leagues Cup break.

Messi did play in Chicago in June when Argentina played against Ecuador in a Copa América warmup match, coming off the bench in the 56th to a standing ovation on the lakefront.

This is the second consecutive year that Messi has missed the match at Soldier Field and he has yet to play in any of Inter Miami’s three games against the Fire since he came to Major League Soccer in 2023.
