The 2026 World Cup is less than six months away, and USMNT fans were very concerned when they saw their star midfielder, Tyler Adams, go down during Bournemouth's Premier League match against Manchester United earlier this week.
Adams blocked a shot from Matheus Cunha in the third minute of the match, and the American midfielder went down holding his knee. Adams was substituted off the pitch in the 5th minute of the match.
After the game, which ended in a 4-4 draw at Old Trafford, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola suspected that Adams suffered an MCL injury and nothing severe like an ACL injury.
Bournemouth has confirmed that Adams tore his MCL. andwill be out for a few months, which concerns USMNT fans.
Andoni Iraola said, "Tyler is injured and has torn his MCL, so he will definitely be out for some time. From our previous experience with MCL injuries, it is normally around two or three months. If you are optimistic, it's going to be two. If you are pessimistic, it's going to be three."
With Iraola's words suggesting that Tyler Adams will miss two to three months, many fans believe that the midfielder would only be able to play two friendlies for the USMNT ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The USMNT has two friendly matches scheduled for March, which is when Adams could potentially be back for.
Mauricio Pochettino recently did not call up Adams to a USMNT camp since the player recently recovered from a minor injury.
The USMNT will take on Belgium on March 28, 2026 nand Portugal on March 31. 2026. The USMNT is confirmed to have a friendly match on May 31, 2026, against an opponent yet to be confirmed, and on June 6, 2026, against Germany.
