One of the most anticipated games of this international break is the ‘friendly’ match between the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) and Mexico.
The USMNT vs. Mexico matchup is the biggest game in CONCACAF because of its historic rivalry. The teams haven’t faced each other in over a year, and their last matchup was the 2025 Gold Cup Final, where Mexico won 2-1; Mexico won the last two matchups in this ‘CONCACAF Clásico’.
Both teams played two friendly matches in this September-October international break, with the USMNT winning both games and Mexico drawing both games.
During the week, the USMNT defeated Chile 4-2 at Energizer Park with goals from Sebastian Berhalter, Julian Hall, Chris Richards, and Mathis Albert.
Mexico played Peru at Sports Illustrated Stadium, and the game finished in a 1-1 draw with a heavily rotated squad. Victor Guzman scored the goal for Mexico with a header in the second half.
Mauricio Pochettino will likely start his most experienced players in the lineup for this game but could have a few young faces in the team, like Cavan Sullivan.
Pochettino is expected to start players who played in the World Cup, like Chris Richards and Antonee Robinson, who played in the previous game.
Ahead of this game, Gilberto Mora was a doubt to play the game after some discomfort he suffered after the Colombia game last weekend, but Mexico head coach Rafael Marquez confirmed that he is ready to play.
Marquez will also look to count on players who played in the World Cup like Roberto Alvarado, Erik Lira, and Mora if the player is fit enough to start.
