Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk warns his teammate that there is no room for error or bad games in the Champions League knockout stages. The Reds will face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the round of 16 tie at Parc des Princes.

Liverpool enjoyed a week-long break after securing a convincing victory against Newcastle United in the Premier League clash at Anfield. The victory secured a 13-point gap between the Reds and second-placed Arsenal for the Premier League title race this season.

Now the focus shifts to European football with some room for a breather in the intense Premier League title race. Liverpool will face Southampton in the Premier League clash that is right between the two Champions League ties against PSG.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Liverpool captain Van Dijk highlighted that there is no room for error in the Champions League. He said:

“Of course, it feels like [the Champions League] goes up a level now. We are in the knockout stages and there is no time for errors or bad games, basically. There are two games to get through and we want to be so good that we deserve to go through. But you have to fight for it, you have to do everything in your power to win the game. That is what we are going to try to do, but we are definitely aware of them. We will be aware of them in Paris and then obviously back here [to Anfield]. These are the nights that you want to perform in and you want to show the whole world.”

Liverpool secured the knockout stage place after finishing first in the Champions League’s League Phase earlier this season. The Reds secured their spot after registering seven straight victories, but they lost the last tie against PSV Eindhoven.

However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot used his fringe players against PSV, which eventually resulted in a close-fought loss. Meanwhile, Les Parisians finished 15th in the Champions League’s League Phase stages after a stumbling start to their current campaign.

However, things have changed drastically since the start of the season as PSG have enjoyed a formidable form. As their new signings began to gel well, the French giant have started securing massive victories with their attackers thriving.

Liverpool cannot leave any room for complacency against PSG and needs to adhere to the warnings of their legendary captain. The Premier League position has provided a healthy room for Liverpool to operate without the stress of getting stretched thin.
