
One of the biggest semifinals of the 2025 MLS playoffs is the matchup between the Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC. Both teams are in great form ahead of the MLS playoffs, and both teams are favorites to win the MLS Cup.
Vancouver Whitecaps is seeded higher than LAFC by only three points, with Vancouver sitting 2nd in the Western Conference table with 63 points and LAFC finishing 3rd in the Western Conference with 60 points.
In the first round of the MLS playoffs, Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC only needed two games in the best-of-three series round to advance to the Western Conference semifinals.
Vancouver Whitecaps eliminated FC Dallas after beating them 3-0 in Game 1 at home and then beating them 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time of Game 2 in Texas.
LAFC eliminated Austin FC after beating them 2-1 at home and then beating them 4-1 away from home in Texas.
Vancouver Whitecaps and LAFC played twice in the regular 2025 MLS season. In the first game in May at Vancouver, the match finished in a 2-2 draw. In the previous encounter in late June, Vancouver defeated LAFC 1-0 in Los Angeles.
The matchup today will be the first time that both clubs will have their respective summer signings, Thomas Müller and Son Heung-Min.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC will kick off at 9:30 p.m. ET/ 6:30 p.m. PT. The match will kick off at 6:30 local time in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, at BC Place.
