VfB Stuttgart scores dramatic 92nd-minute goal to avoid Bundesliga relegation

VfB Stuttgart will play in Bundesliga next season after avoiding relegation in the most dramatic way possible Saturday.

Stuttgart started the day three points behind Hertha BSC for 15th place, the final spot about the relegation zone. When Hertha lost 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund it opened the door for Stuttgart, but a draw with Köln wasn't going to be enough.

With the score 1-1 in added time, Stuttgart finally got its desperately needed game-winner in the 92nd minute when Wataru Endo headed in a corner kick.

After the stunning reversal of fortune, Stuttgart and Hertha both finished the season with 33 points. Stuttgart earned the 15th-place finish thanks to a negative-18 goal differential, well ahead of Hertha's negative-34.

Stuttgart was promoted to the top tier in German soccer in 2020 and has been relegated twice in the last six years. Hertha will be relegated for the first time since 2012.
