Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman registered his fourth goal in five matches at the Africa Cup of Nations to send Nigeria into the competition’s semi-finals on Friday evening.

Nantes Forward Moses Simon latched onto a ball out to the left flank, before sprinting down the wing to deliver an enticing ball into the area for Lookman to smash into the back of the net from 12 yards out.

He is now the joint-second highest goalscorer in the 2024 edition of AFCON.

Lookman’s strike helped Nigeria to a 1-0 quarter-final victory over Angola. The Super Eagles will now face either Cape Verde or South Africa in the semi-final on Wednesday.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen thought he had added a second for Nigeria in the second half, but his effort was later ruled out for offside.

Osimhen then left the pitch on a stretcher in the final minutes of the game, but it is believed that his potential injury is not particularly serious.
