Watch Inter star Marcus Thuram discuss his career, how father Lilian gives advice, his best friends in the Nerazzurri squad and Scudetto ambitions.

The striker has made a sensational impact on Serie A, perhaps unsurprisingly considering he was born in Parma when his father was playing for the local club.

The 26-year-old has contributed seven goals and 10 assists in 21 games between Serie A and the Champions League.

“I first started doing that celebration with my hands to my ears to hear the noise of the fans at San Siro when I scored against Fiorentina,” Tikus told the Lega Serie A Channel.

“I try to help the team, not just with goals and assists, but also if they need help on a throw-in, a pass or dribbling. My job on the field is to help the team.

“In my view, being a Number 9 means responding to where I am needed, whether it’s on the left, the right or the middle. I have to make the right choice at the right time: not shoot if a teammate is free, interpret the game in the best possible way.”

Thuram has already formed a strong partnership with Lautaro Martinez, nicknamed the ThuLa pairing.

“What I love about Lauti the most is his technique and eye for goal. We work well together, because Lautaro is a very intelligent player and I try to be intelligent too. We respect the game, it is easier to play with someone like that.”

His best friends in the squad are however Hakan Calhanoglu and Marco Arnautovic, who Thuram describes as “like big brothers. They help a lot, joke around, do a lot for me off the field, though I can’t get into that here!”

Lilian Thuram is often seen in the stands for Inter matches to cheer on his son, although he won’t say that to his face.

“Even at the age of 26, he still thinks I am a kid! When I have a good game, a goal, an assist, I know he probably won’t talk about that, but rather tell me what I got wrong. That’s fine, it helps me to learn a lot.”

Inter are top of the Serie A table and are targeting the ‘second star’ – their 20th Scudetto – getting there before rivals Milan.

“Since I signed for Inter, I know that they start this season to win the title. It is very long and too early to talk about that, but we give our best in every game.”
