Manchester United’s summer transfer window is starting to drag, especially as other clubs seem to be getting their business done with far less hassle.
Things actually got off to a quick start. Matheus Cunha was signed on June 1st, the earliest addition the club has made in more than ten years, and that gave supporters some early optimism.

But since then, there hasn’t been much to get excited about. Outside of the pre-arranged deals for Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik, nothing new has come through. Negotiations over Bryan Mbeumo have dragged on for over a month now, with recruitment staff slow to act.
That means pre-season has started with just one fresh face in the squad. Ruben Amorim is still waiting for more support from Ineos, despite having put his trust in their project from the beginning.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have moved quickly and brought in two players – Mohammed Kudus and Morgan Gibbs-White – for a combined £115m. It’s a sharp contrast to how things are moving at Old Trafford.
The window isn’t closed yet though and there’s still time for things to turn around. United can still make this a positive summer if they pick up the pace soon.
Arsenal are also active in the market, closing in on Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a deal expected to exceed £50m.
The Gunners had been favourites to land Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, with the striker reportedly leaning towards Mikel Arteta’s side, largely due to their Champions League status.
But with talks between Arsenal and Sporting hitting a snag over the guaranteed fee, doubts have started to emerge about whether the transfer will go through.
Speaking to The United Stand, Ben Jacobs shared that Gyokeres hasn’t ruled out a move to Old Trafford, even without Champions League football on offer.
“He is open to it,” Jacobs said. “I think that what is important here is that there are still no talks between Manchester United and Sporting CP over a deal for Viktor Gyokeres.”
“But if things progress and if Manchester United decide they want that profile of striker then I don’t think the lack of Champions League football is going to put him off.”
No formal discussions have taken place yet, as United remain focused on Bryan Mbeumo and look to offload players before making any new moves for a striker.
Manchester United have made it clear that signing a striker is a top priority this summer, as scoring goals proved to be a major challenge last season.
Because of that, strengthening the attack has taken center stage. If Viktor Gyokeres becomes available and United manage to offload some players, Ineos could find it difficult to pass up the opportunity to bring in the Swedish forward.
Ruben Amorim has already spoken with Gyokeres about a potential move, suggesting that both sides are open to the transfer if conditions are right.
Sporting are asking for £68 million to part ways with Gyokeres — a significant fee that United, at this point, cannot meet.
