Amid talk about his future, Van Dijk provided an update on contract talks with Liverpool, noting that they’re going in a positive direction.
“There is progress, yeah,” Van Dijk said (h/t GOAL). “I don’t know [if I’ll stay], we’ll see. Listen (laughs), these are internal discussions and we’ll see.”
He’s also been linked with clubs—not just PSG, but Barcelona as well. According to Fichajes, the Catalan side are hoping to land him with a two-year offer despite their financial challenges.
Whether that happens could come down to Van Dijk’s willingness to adjust his salary expectations. His current wages at Liverpool are high, and any potential suitor will have to navigate those numbers carefully.
Still, a move to PSG probably wasn’t a serious thing. David Ornstein of The Athletic previously reported that people close to the situation don’t see the French club as a likely destination, and Liverpool remain confident Van Dijk will extend his stay.
ESPN’s Julien Laurens also noted that while Van Dijk did talk with PSG’s sporting advisor after their recent matchup, talks haven’t progressed beyond that.
