Only last year, Luis Alberto committed his long-term future to Lazio, penning a contract extension amid approaches for the Saudi Pro League. However, 12 months on, the 31-year-old is determined to end his eight-year association with Biancocelesti after falling out of favor with the hierarchy and fans.

According to Matteo Moretto, Qatar could be Alberto’s next stop, with Al-Duhail displaying a genuine interest in the Lazio outcast. The Qatari champions have already made in touch with the player’s entourage to understand the deal’s feasibility.

Unlike his former clubmate Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Alberto will miss out on the promised land of Saudi Arabia. But this is close enough. Given Al-Duhail’s financial prowess, an eye-watering contract offer is a virtual certainty. Yet, Lazio will have the final say.

Claudio Lotito wouldn’t mind cutting his wantaway star loose for the right price. With Lazio on the verge of falling short of Champions League qualification, the club will have to intervene in the transfer market to optimize the quality of Igor Tudor’s squad.

Before investing, Lazio must first raise funds. While they can’t realistically expect to make big bucks from the rumored departure of Ciro Immobile, Alberto’s exit should pour some money into the club’s bank accounts. And clubs from the Middle East are always willing to pay.

Al-Duhail are no strangers to completing high-profile deals. Philippe Coutinho joined the club on loan from Aston Villa last summer. Alberto could be next if they impress Lazio with their offer.
