Watch: Carlos Alcaraz trains in full-swing with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, whose absence was deeply felt at the 2024 Australian Open
Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Alcaraz has had Juan Carlos Ferrero as his coach for almost the entirety of his career. The Spanish coach took the youngster under his wing when he was just 16 years old and the duo have achieved great heights together.

Alcaraz is currently a two-time Grand Slam winner and one of the most promising youngsters out there. A lot of the credit for his success goes to Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The 21-year-old, unfortunately, did not have his coach by his side for the entirety of the 2024 Australian Open. Ferrero had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in December 2023, which ruled him out of the tournament in January. Alcaraz did fairly well in his absence and managed to make it to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, he could not go the distance.

The Spanish coach has now returned to action, and he has started to train Alcaraz almost immediately after his Australian Open came to an end. In a video that has been released on social media, Ferrero and Alcaraz can be seen training together at the Ferrero Tennis Academy in Alicante, Spain. The post revealed that the two are currently preparing for the Latin American clay court circuit.

Welcome back @juankiferri. We’re so excited to see Juan Carlos training @carlosalcaraz again after his recovery. It’s time to prepare for the Latin American clay-court circuit! VAMOS TEAM.  the caption read

Carlos Alcaraz has seen a dip in his form in the last few months

Carlos Alcaraz peaked in mid-2023 when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final to win his second Grand Slam title. His performance in the Cincinnati Open after that was also spectacular. However, after his loss to Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 US Open semifinal, the Spaniard has seen a significant dip in his form, due to which he also lost his World No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings.

Although Alcaraz has redeemed himself from that phase, he is yet to get back to the form that he had in the first half of 2023, and he is striving to get there. He performed well in the Australian Open but lost to Alexander Zverev in the semifinals after a tough battle. The Spaniard will now look forward to getting a positive result in the upcoming clay court tournaments in South America before finally shifting his focus to the Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
