After a scoreless and mostly uneventful 90 minutes, Portugal and Slovenia needed extra time to determine who would earn a spot in the Euro 2024 quarterfinal.

During the first extra period in the 105th minute, Portugal was awarded a controversial penalty kick and a chance for legend Cristiano Ronaldo to put his country ahead.

Ronaldo had not scored in any Euro 2024 match and had a golden opportunity from the penalty spot, but his shot was saved by Slovenian goaltender Jan Oblak.

It was a rare occurrence for football fans to witness. The low moment brought Ronaldo to tears during the extra time break.

The winner of this match will advance to play France in the quarterfinals, set to happen July 5-6.
