This season has been imbalanced, to put it mildly. Tottenham are 17th in the Premier League at the time of writing, and in the final of the Europa League, which makes for two very contrasting descriptions of one team’s efforts. Dan Kilpatrick asked the Spurs gaffer about this frankly unusual situation, but made one crucial mistake.

Before asking Ange about the disparity, the Evening Standard hack pondered the same question in print and directly called the gaffer a clown.

To his face, Kilpatrick was less forthright:

“If you win tomorrow night, this is going to be remembered as one of the best seasons in the club’s modern history. But kind of conversely, if you lose, it might be remembered for one of the worst league seasons in the club’s modern history. I just wondered if you’re kind of conscious that you’re walking a fine line between kind of two very different types of infamy in history”
However, the damage had been done, as Ange had read the copy published here. Postecoglou, as is his wont, took umbrage.

The final was unlikely to pass without incident, but one had to question the judgment of this young reporter in inviting the beleaguered coach into a scrap on a day when most fans are simply looking to get behind the team.
