Liverpool led 2-1 even as the announced five minutes of stoppage time had reached their conclusion. However, due to continued stoppages during the extra time, Everton were able to find a miracle moment.
The draw forces Liverpool to drop two all-important standings points as it attempts to extend the gap between it (57 points) and the nearest challenger Arsenal (50) in the Premier League title race.
Wednesday's electric derby match will be the final in the series at historic Goodison Park, home of Everton, as the club will be moving to a new stadium nearby for the start of the 2025-26 season.
