Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum played against Paris Saint-Germain during the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2018. In those two fixtures, the 30-year-old had a first-hand look at his future teammates in Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé.
In an interview with RMC Sport, Wijnaldum recalls those two Champions League games, especially the one at the Parc des Princes where he stated how difficult it was to stop the Brazil international. Now the midfielder will share the pitch with Neymar and Mbappé.
“I remember that Neymar had the ball on the left side in the first half and that he dribbled five of our players. We were all trying to stop him, but it was impossible. I already knew how good he was, but at that moment, I really saw his qualities, how fast he is, how difficult it is to defend him,” Wijnaldum said.
“I was very impressed by Neymar but also by the other players. Mbappé is also an excellent player who has not proven that against us. He has shown it to everyone in European competitions and international matches.”
Wijnaldum sur RMC : "Toute l'équipe est de qualité et je suis excité de m'entraîner et jouer avec elle".
