That goal not only gave Brazil the lead, but it was also historic for the country and Neymar.
That goal was Neymar's 77th international goal for Brazil, matching the country's all-time record held by the legendary Pele.
Even that is not without some controversy however.
The 77 mark is the number that is recognized by FIFA for international goals, but the Brazilian Football Confederation does not recognize that number, arguing that Pele actually scored more than 90 goals in international matches. The reason for the discrepancy, as highlighted in this article from The Athletic this past week, is that Brazil counts matches against club teams as international matches, while FIFA only recognizes matches against other nations.
