Wayne Rooney has been shortlisted to become Newcastle United’s new manager.

The outlet that is running this story as an exclusive, SPORT bible, are hardly the most reliable but let’s take a quick look at what they are claiming to have heard.

“A reliable source close to the new owners and the former Manchester United forward has informed us that Rooney is in the frame to replace Steve Bruce at St James’ Park.”

What a story that would be – and it would mean Rooney takes over a side everyone wants to see lose. Best of luck with that one!

The 35-year-old is currently in charge at Championship side Derby County, after saving them from relegation last season, but the report adds he would be interested in taking the role.

ChronicleLive also revealed that Rooney was keen in taking over at the Magpies in the shiort run, with Steve Bruce now sacked by the club.

However, Rooney has seemingly brushed off any speculation linking him with the managerial position at Newcastle.

“I saw that this morning [Tuesday],” Rooney told DerbyshireLive (via ChronicleLive).

“From my point of view I cannot stop speculation, I get that, but I have had no contact at all with Newcastle United and obviously, as I have stated before, I am committed to this football club.”

Rooney has stuck by the Championship struggles and I hope he doesn’t go to Newcastle.
