Chelsea are taking on Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and before kick off Xabi Alonso spoke to the media.

Xabi Alonso has been speaking to the media ahead of Chelsea’s game against Everton, where he was asked about his team’s midfield options now that Reece James is out.

He said in his presser yesterday that his team had enough depth, and he repeated that line today.

“We have enough options in midfield, with Romeo [Lavia], [Valentin] Barco – they have played this season – and now we have Moi and Hendo back,” Alonso said.

“It was a good first day with them playing together in the middle [against Brentford]; they gave balance, personality and stability to the rest of the team. They mix very well in terms of qualities and personalities, so that’s very important for any team. They did really well and today we’ll need another big one in this stadium, against a tough opponent.

“We needed a win [last weekend] and now we need to keep going, repeat the right things, and always improve game by game.”

Chavarria update comes from manager

Alonso also had a word on Pep Chavarria, who is not in the squad today:

“He picked up a little problem yesterday. We are not certain yet of the situation because it was late yesterday.”

Let’s hope it actually is little.
