'We took over immediately,' Benjamin Nygren

The Swedish midfielder confessed that finding the net brought relief for himself personally, especially after missing a massive opportunity to equalise moments earlier.

With Celtic trailing 2–1 and the pressure mounting inside the stadium, Nygren seized on a horrendous mistake from the Motherwell keeper Callum Ward, reacting quickly to finish and pull the Hoops level.

That moment ignited the late charge, with Daizen Maeda eventually striking deep into added time to complete the comeback and secure a huge three points for Celtic.

Speaking post-match at his media conference (watch below), Nygren said: “It was a very nice feeling. It was a difficult game but we really showed a lot of mentality and heart in the second half to chase the win and we got it.”

“We really showed our character, and how we stick together as a team. We do that always but we showed a great team mentality out there.”

“When myself and the others went on, we said we need to go for a goal every time because we were chasing the game at 2–1 down. I think we took over immediately after we came on and thankfully we got the goals,” the 23 year-old added.

He was also questioned about his miss just prior to equalising for the Scottish champions: “The goalkeeper made a good save but thankfully I managed to get the goal soon afterwards,” he said.

With an international break upon us, Nygren and his teammates return to action a week on Sunday where they will face Steven Pressley’s struggling Dundee side.

Brendan Rodgers’ men then turn to European matters with a must-win encounter versus Sturm Graz looming. It’s important that Rodgers uses this period to reflect on what has been a challenging period both on and off the pitch.
