The lack of consistency to carve out positive results week in week out is what costed Ange Postecoglou his job at Tottenham. But it is also fair to suggest that many key players failed to deliver in domestic competitions, and they also failed to step up and lead the team when it mattered the most.
To avoid repeating the same mistakes again next season under Thomas Frank, the Lilywhites need to bring in quality players that would elevate the ceiling of the squad. However, Daniel Levy must adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer if he wants to sign new players. The poor Premier League campaign has forced Spurs to cash-in on underperforming players to generate funds for new arrivals.
The attacking line should be given priority in the summer as the lack of depth on the flanks is a cause for concern. With Heung-Min Son facing a steady decline in form and Mathys Tel still learning his trade in the Premier League, Daniel Levy must look to bring in a quality player that would instantly make an impact at N17 under Thomas Frank.
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are edging closer to striker a deal with Crystal palace for Eberechi Eze. The Lilywhites are set to beat arch rivals Arsenal in the race to sign the 27-year-old. And the aforementioned report also suggests that the versatile attacker is giving priority to Spurs as he is keen to play regularly in the elite competitions next season.
Now, ex-Premier League manager Alan Pardew has also backed Eze to join Spurs over Arsenal in the summer. Speaking on talkSPORT, Pardew said,
“Would they take him nearer to that title? Um, possibly. But I think they got enough quality with Odegaard and everybody else over there. So therefore, I have answered your question. I think he should go to Spurs if he leaves the great Crystal Palace.”
Alan Pardew has suggested that Eberechi Eze will have a greater chance of winning the Premier League if he joins Arsenal. But the ex-PL manager adds that the Gunners already have depth in the position and the Palace star will not get regular game-time at the Emirates Stadium. Pardew then urges Eze to choose Spurs as his summer destination as the Lilywhites will offer him regular game-time under Thomas Frank.
It remains to be seen how Daniel Levy approaches the deal to sign the England international in the coming weeks. The 27-year-old has a £68m release clause in his Palace contract, and the Eagles are in no hurry to sell the attacker if a suitable offer does not come in. But it is fair to suggest that Eberechi Eze, who scored the winner in last season’s FA Cup final at Wembley, would instantly elevate the quality of the squad at N17 if he joins the club in the coming weeks.
