West Bromwich Albion are one of the most famous clubs in English football history.

Many people have forgotten this, but Albion are one of the most decorated teams in England.

Especially when it comes to the FA Cup.

Albion have won the FA Cup five times in their history and also previously won the first division also (the predecessor to the English Premier League).

Many will also remember seeing West Bromwich Albion playing in the English Premier League.

Granted, their recent history has seen them become more of a yo-yo club that have oscillated between the Premier League and the Championship over the years.

However, it’s been quite a while since Albion competed in the top flight.

Their last stint in the top flight was the 2020/21 season when they got relegated straight after being promoted the year before.

That’s a stark difference compared to the 8 straight seasons they had in the Premier League from 2010/11 to 2017/18.

And the club have been chasing a return to the top ever since.

There was renewed hope in pre-season as the club reinfored and brought players that many thought would help them challenge for promotion.

Unfortunately, it’s not quite worked like that and West Bromwich Albion are closer to the relegation spots currently than promotion.

One of the players brought into the club in the summer was Manchester United’s Toby Collyer.

Collyer, on the fringes of the first team at Old Trafford, was seen as a player at a higher level who could do with regular game time at a competitive level to aid his development.

It seemed like a win-win situation for everyone.

But it hasn’t quite worked out that way.

The midfielder has had a frustrating time at The Hawthorns, punctuated by injuries and time on the bench.

In fact, Toby Collyer got injured just last month 10 minutes into a comeback game from his last injury.

Subsequent to that, The Red Devils recalled the player to aid his recovery back in Manchester.

And now it appears his time in the Midlands is over – at least with West Bromwich Albion.

The Athletic report that Manchester United have decided that Toby Collyer will not return to West Bromwich Albion after he recovers from injury.

Collyer was on a season-long loan, but that has now been terminated before the January transfer window opens.

The Athletic further mention that several Championship clubs have expressed interest in the midfielder if United make him available for another loan.

However, the club could decide to keep him at the club and fight for minutes with the first team – especially with uncertainty over the future of Kobbie Mainoo.

For now, one thing is for sure.

And that’s Toby Collyer will not be seen in a West Bromwich Albion shirt again for the 2025/26 season.
