West Ham United are eyeing a late summer push for Tottenham Hotspur star Yves Bissouma

YTottenham Hotspur midfield star ves Bissouma is linked with a move to West Ham United in what should be a lively few final weeks of the 2025 summer transfer window at N17.

Bissouma, signed from Brighton in 2022 for around £25m, has had a mixed career in N17. On his day, the Mali international is a powerhouse in midfield, press-resistant, combative, and capable of dictating the tempo. Yet, injuries, suspensions, and inconsistent form have prevented him from becoming the nailed-on starter Spurs fans hoped for.

His omission from the Super Cup squad, as punishment for being late to training, and subsequent absence against Burnley on the opening weekend raised eyebrows. While Frank is clearly According to Sacha Tavolieri (h/t Give Me Sport), setting high standards, Bissouma’s status under the new boss is now in question.

Why West Ham’s interest matters

West Ham are reportedly monitoring Bissouma’s situation closely, especially after their midfield was exposed in a 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Sunderland. With Lucas Paquetá’s future still unresolved and Graham Potter demanding more athleticism in midfield, Bissouma fits the bill perfectly.

The Hammers can offer him regular Premier League football, a chance to remain in England (his stated preference), and a key role in their rebuild. At £100,000-a-week, he wouldn’t be cheap, but for a side desperate to add dynamism, it could make sense.

For Spurs, this presents a classic crossroads. On one hand, Bissouma is still just 28, experienced in the Premier League, and offers qualities that are hard to replace. On the other hand, his Spurs career has been stop-start at best, and Thomas Frank might prefer midfielders more in tune with his pressing system.

The club has already invested in Mohammed Kudus and still have Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, and Oliver Skipp in the engine room. If Frank deems Bissouma surplus to requirements, Daniel Levy may see West Ham’s interest as an opportunity to cash in while his stock is still respectable.

From a Tottenham fan’s perspective, this one stings a little. Bissouma showed flashes, particularly last season, of being the midfield anchor we’ve needed since Mousa Dembélé left. Losing him to a direct London rival like West Ham wouldn’t go down well unless Spurs have a clear upgrade lined up.

The key here is Frank’s judgement. If he believes Bissouma isn’t the right fit for his high-energy style, then moving him on for a decent fee might be best for all parties. But if there’s even a chance he can rediscover his Brighton form under new management, Spurs may regret letting him go. For now, West Ham are circling, but the ball is firmly in Tottenham’s court.
