West Ham United will start their season today, August 8, 2026, in Round 1 of the EFL Carabao Cup against fellow Championship side Portsmouth.

West Ham finished their preseason last weekend when they played Magdeburg in Germany. The game finished in a 1-1 draw, and Max Kilman scored the goal for the Hammers.

Despite getting relegated to the Championship, West Ham were able to keep key players in the squad like Jarrod Bowen, who played in the friendly match against Magdeburg.

West Ham United recently announced the signing of Dutch right-back Joel Veltman and is reportedly eligible to play against Portsmouth.
